CONGO TOWN
Congo Town has excellent sand bars and provides some of the best shaped beach break waves in the Monrovia
area. The waves tend to be a bit heavier, faster, and more hollow than the Kendeja, so is a little less ideal for
beginners. This spot thrives during the dry season on the North swells that hit the countries north of Liberia, but
don't really hit Liberia directly, so watch the maps (not the swell summary) for those swells that look pretty
much like they're passing us by from the North. This same swell often makes Kendeja do strange things and not
break well, whereas Congo Town is pumping.

Sorry, no pics, as the best access and parking to this point is right next to a lagoon, and a short paddle across
the lagoon puts you right at what seems to be the best stretch of the Congo Town beach.

Directions
A La Lagun is a restaurant, bar, and guest house and the owner is very kind to surfers parking there. Please think
about buying a coke or some juice at minimum to thank them for their hospitality. It is located on Old Congo
Town Rd., which runs off of Tubman Blvd. (I think this becomes Monrovia-Kakata Hwy. at this point). Old
Congo Town Rd. loops from Winner's Chapel (closest to town) back to the main road at a currently empty
building that was intended as the new Ministry of Health building before the war. A La Lagun is closest to the
MOH building. The turn off the main road is marked by a concrete hand holding a cell phone and a sign that
says "Lone Star Park" (this is the hand and cell phone on the right coming from town, not the one on the left,
which is the Lone Star Cell office.) A La Lagun is obviously on the beach side and is surrounded by a bamboo
fence.
